As experienced professionals, having viewed and analyzed over 1500 crimes and criminals caught on surveillance video we are capable of examining, analyzing, and processing all types of video, photographic, and multimedia evidence.
With the explosion of CCTV systems and surveillance for litigation purposes, video evidence is becoming an extremely valuable tool in a vast array of investigations and civil lawsuits. Through our past experiences, we have seen both the frailties and power of video evidence when analyzed, prepared, and presented in a proper manner. After completing his BSc in molecular biology at Simon Fraser University in 2002, Dave then pursued an advanced specialty certificate in forensic science technology at BCIT, where he developed his passion for forensics and the analysis of digital evidence; specifically video, audio, and digital images. He combined his background in science with his knowledge of video recording systems, photography, and computers to specialize in the field of forensic video analysis and video surveillance technology.
During his time as a forensic video analyst with the RCMP, Mr. McKay viewed and analyzed over 1500 crimes and criminals caught on various video and image recording systems (CCTV, video cameras, cell phones, TaxiCams, still cameras, and computers). He has experience testifying in both Provincial and Supreme Court as an expert witness in the field of forensic video technology, specifically the forensic analysis of video and digital images. Dave McKay’s current research interests include the development of advanced real-time video analysis software, intelligent video surveillance systems, and complex forensic databases for the purpose of linkage through visual identification. Dave is also the instructor for the "CCTV & Forensics Examinations" course at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT).
Dave also manages BCIT’s advanced Forensic Video and Surveillance Technology Lab. Allowing him to stay on top of technology as it emerges, while continuing his relationship with various law enforcement agencies and legal professionals through training and education.
